SM System

About the SM System

The SM System - short for Stabilizing and Mobilizing System - is a series of exercises developed by Czech physician MUDr. Richard Smíšek over the last 35 years. The system has been applied in clinical settings with patients suffering from lumbar, thoracic, and cervical pain, as well as acute disc herniation and scoliosis. It has also gained popularity in neighboring Germany, where it is now covered by health insurance.

SM System exercises help activate the spiral muscles of the spine, enabling the spine to stretch and taking pressure off spinal discs. Generally, lifestyle habits such as sedentary work and computer use lead to underutilization of the spiral muscles and overloading of the vertical muscles of the spine, compressing the spinal column and straining the discs. SM exercises are designed to reverse this and give spinal discs a chance to regenerate and heal.
